3 months - 18 months
Our Infant program provides a prepared environment where they develop naturally in their own way and at their own pace. It is a place where parents can feel secure that their child will be loved and most importantly, nurtured.
Our Infant caregivers have been trained to observe first, listen next and then respond. You will usually find one caregiver on the floor with the children watching, listening and communicating rather than a flutter of movement constantly above them. The prepared environment (their classroom ) is characterized by order, simplicity and beauty which meet the needs of the child. The focus of the infant environment is fostering basic trust in the child. The children learn concentration, order, sequence, and skills adapted to their culture with practical life. The exercise of practical life is fundamental for the child’s development because it supports the tendencies and needs of young children.
The child learns practical life activities, and gets a feeling of dignity, accomplishment, and self confidence. Our infant environment conforms to the physical needs of the children, both in the size of the furnishings and in the opportunities for small and large motor development. Dr Montessori had a special vision for the very young child, and we manifest this in our infant community program. In a Montessori atmosphere, the children are free to explore their environment and develop physically, socially, intellectually and academically in activities and learning areas.
Our program offers the young child a wide variety of learning experiences utilizing the Montessori approach to education. As part of our infant program, we allow the child to develop according to his/her own nature and have the freedom to explore his/her own environment. We follow the child’s natural growth pattern with activities that are designed to promote the development of social skills, emotional growth, and physical coordination. The infant program serves children who are between the ages of six weeks and eighteen months. It will serve infants in a small and intimate group by trained staff persons with a ratio of 1:4.
